Figure out how much bandwidth you actually need and then find a hosting company that can really provide it.

You can do this while you are investigating reliability and find out from others what their experience was like. It is also a good idea to send a few emails to their support desk and see what kind of response you get before you sign up. See how long it takes them to get back to you and how helpful they are when they do. If they are not helpful or it takes too long to get a response don't expect it to any better when you are a customer.

The last thing that you are going to want to look at is the cost of the hosting. It is rarely a good idea to go with the hosting companies that promise extremely low rates, they usually offer quite poor service. Like most things you do get what you pay for. Don't just assume that the more expensive service is better, you will need to do some research but you will probably find that the higher priced services are the better ones.
